Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese treatment based on the same meridian system as acupuncture. Like acupuncture, shiatsu is based on energetic healing but unlike acupuncture needles are not used and physical manipulation is an essential part of the treatment. Shiatsu means “thumb pressure”. However, that is a bit misleading because pressure is applied also with the elbows and knees. Traditional Shiatsu is done on a mat on the floor. The client is clothed in lose comfortable clothing. The objective is two fold, to use use direct pressure on the acupuncture points using pressure to release the musculature and to focus energetic shifts to bring balance to the systems. Shiatsu can be any level of depth, strong or mild, and may include stretches to open energetic flow through the system, to enhance the system balance. Although intermittent treatment is effective in releasing current tensions, regular therapy makes deep positive changes to the constitution and perspective.
